Varun Madan of India stunned former World Junior champion and pro player of two seasons Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon (Thailand) 4-2 to confirm his berth in Last-16 stage of 2016 IBSF World 6Reds Championship here in Sharm-el-Sheikh.
It was not easy for Varun but he chose to stay calm and go steady. After losing first frame, he curtailed Thanawat by winning next two frames obtaining 2-1 lead.
In fourth frame, Thanawat scored a break of 33 points and levelled the match but in next two frames, Varun went ball to ball game and secured both the frames to win the match 4-2.
With this he advanced to pre-quarter final stage that will be played on Friday, the 29th July.
Meanwhile, another Indian player Sourav Kothari also advanced to pre-quarter finals of 6Reds defeating former Asian 6Reds champion, Amir Sarkhosh 4-2. Kothari was leading 2 frames but lost the third frame despite having a break of 33 points. Amir pulled up fourth frame too to level the match but after that it was all from Kothari who not only won the 5th frame but also made an excellent break of 53 points in 6th to win 4-2.
