Morgan survives scare to progress

Darren Morgan - Wales Darren Morgan - Wales IBSF Media
Today was certainly a struggling day for Wales in 2017 World Snooker Championship in Doha, Qatar. After early exit of their star player Andrew Pagett, the master player and multiple time World Champion, Darren Morgan was on the verge of losing in Last-16 of Masters category.

He stayed lucky as he finally survived for the remaining competition as his classy opponent, Cherag Ramakrishnan from India, missed the simple shot to pot blue in final frame and gave Darren a last breathing space.

Darren wasn’t seen in his real form. He missed important shots at regular intervals to put himself in trouble again and again. Full credit to Cherag, who played extremely superb game after a sabbatical 15 year.

When Darren won the first frame with break of 45, it appeared early closure of the match in his favour, but against the audience expectation, Cherag sealed the next frame to make it clear that he is also here for some for some serious business and not just as a mute spectator. Further ahead, Cherag snatched the third frame by a close margin.

The fourth frame could have won by Cherag but unexpectedly he missed the simple black leaving an open table to Darren. Though Darren gave him further chances, but managed to make it level 2-2.

Sixth frame saw brilliantly crafted break of 95 by Darren to set decide, where Darren had obtained first lead of 45 points, which Cherag recovered to stay in contention.

Lastly, he got a fluke on brown with perfect position for blue, but the victory was not destined and in a hurry to close the proceedings, he missed it leaving all open for Darren, which he accomplished.

In late evening match of Last-16, he knocked out his opponent from Ireland, Brian McPhee 4-0 to enter Last-8.
