Lilly's efforts went in vain; Thomson shines

Gary Thomson - Scotland Gary Thomson - Scotland IBSF Media

Disappointment for Indian player Dharminder Singh Lilly on his birthday as he lost the decider frame of his last-32 match after making a great recovery against the Scottish guy Gary Thomso.

Gary gave a good start with an opening break of 62 points and pocked first frame. Lilly was also not far behind and he posted break of 76 to clinch the second frame. Even the third frame was interesting that Thomson managed to win on black ball game but after that he pulled up next two frames to raise the lead by 4-1.

A frame away from victory was a momentary play in such situations but Lilly made him waited long as he recovered well and pocketed next three frames in a great style having an impressive break of 66 points to set decider.

The decider was crucial for both but it was Thomson who moved ahead to take 52 points lead with 35 points left on board. It was really commendable for Thomson that he countered many snooker planted by Lilly in the last moment of play. Lastly, Thomson got an opening and potted the last red playing a rolling shot leaving no option for Lilly other than shaking hand and congratulate him.
