Akbar has it easy

Hamza Akbar - Pakistan Hamza Akbar - Pakistan IBSF Media

Hamza Akbar of Pakistan scored a lopsided 4-0 win over Brazilian Vinicius Da Silva Fucuta for his fifth win in Group ‘C’ of the Seaways IBSF World Snooker Championships at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, India, on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Akbar came up with a brilliant 127 break in the opening frame of the best-of-seven-frame league encounter. Hardly perturbed, the Pakistan cueist breezed through the next three frames to qualify for the round of 64 second in the group behind Thailand’s Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn. The Thai player won all his matches in the seven-player group.

On the adjacent table, Gary Thomson of Scotland defeated African champion Mohamed Khairy 4-1. The win came a little too late for the Scot in the league as he failed to progress to the knockout stage.

Two-time champion Ng On Yee of Hong Kong overcame Nicola Illse Rossouw of South Africa 3-1 in her final Group ‘C’ match. The 24-year-old Hong Kong cueist topped her group with an all-win record.

Also going through to the knockout was three-time champion Wendy Jans of Belgium. The 31-year floored Hong Kong’s Ip Wan In Jaique with a barrage of breaks to finish No. 2 in her group. Wendy had runs of 82, 31 and 31 in her 3-0 rout of Jaique.
